Attention Deficit Disorder Statistics |
Attention deficit disorder is a mental disorder that affects children and create hyperactivity and difficulty to concentrate on a single task. Its said that 5% of the world population have ADD, now lets take a look at some attention deficit disorder statistics.
Some studies reported that 20% of school children have ADD but a more realistic 5% in the total amount of children is accepted. Boys are more likely to have ADD with 10 times more probability than girls.
The most popular medical drug used to treat ADD is "Ritalin", more than 2 million kids in the US taking it. However there has been some debate about the possible side effects of this drug. The reason for this is that there has not been an extensive test of the drug for its effect in a long period of time.
Stimulants in children are known to provoke side effects like suppression of growth, weight gain, etc. If you are thinking for giving your child medical drugs like Ritalin i suggest you do first a proper research of the possible side effects, it might affect the life of you child for years to come and he dont know it.
Usually these kinds of drugs can help for a short term period of time, but it wont make a difference in the long term, what could probably happen is that if your child stops taking the drug the symptoms will still be there, but he will have the side effects. A drug is not a cure just a temporary remedy.
Also research has shown that kids that have taken drugs for ADD and ADHD for a long period of time, get drug addiction problems for the rest of their lives.
